TESTIMONIALS

Paul was wonderfully helpful when he restored a vintage wall clock for me. Welcoming, knowledgeable and great service - thank you 😊 Would recommend, and would use again!

Took two military watches to Paul which I didn't believe could be repaired. Returned to me working perfectly, repaired by a professional, conscientious, meticulous young man. Happy to recommend.

Paul is a Craftsman, honest and a pleasure to deal with. I'll be taking all my watch servicing to him in future. Thanks Paul, My TAG is working great now.

Absolutely wonderful work.  Paul was amazing I called him on the off chance and he opened his workshop for me to go and meet him.
He serviced and repaired a vintage silver watch that I was thought was beyond repair which is now working like new.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him If you have a time piece that needs servicing or repairing do not hesitate to get in touch with Paul.
Superb service and his attention to details is second to none. A*

Really great service. Paul restored and mended an antique watch left to me by my late grandmother. Not only did he mend it, he went above and beyond to clean it up and restore it to its former glory. Thanks Paul!

Paul has been absolutely brilliant in getting my small mantle clock running to time and chiming properly. As it's my Grandad's clock left to me, it's extremely precious, which Paul was very understanding of. An expert at what he does, nothing has felt too much trouble, the clock is now working perfectly! I can't recommend highly enough!

Paul Burchell, AKA Clock Kent

About Clock Kent

Watches and clocks have always fascinated me since I was young. As a boy I was always curious about how things worked, especially mechanical devices. I used to take apart my toys and gadgets and try to put them back together. I was fascinated by the intricate and elegant design of gears, springs and levers that made them move and function.  So that’s when I decided to pursue watch and clock repairing as a career because I wanted to combine my curiosity and passion, as well as protecting and restoring these valuable and beautiful timepieces.

I learned that books and lectures were not enough, so I sought the wisdom and guidance of the masters of the past, who taught me the traditional skills that enabled me to offer a service of the highest quality and to contribute to the future of horology. I enjoy learning about the different cultures and eras that produced these amazing timepieces. I admire the craftsmanship and creativity of the watchmakers and clockmakers who created these works of art. I enjoy discovering the stories and secrets behind each watch and clock, and how they reflect the personality and style of their owners.  I hope by sharing my knowledge and skills with others, they will appreciate and value these wonderful creations too.

Some of the traditional skills I have learned are:

  • How to use hand tools such as files, saws, hammers, and drills to shape and fit metal parts for clocks and watches.
  • How to clean, oil, and adjust the movements of clocks and watches using tweezers, screwdrivers, and magnifying glasses.
  • How to repair or replace damaged or worn parts such as springs, gears, jewels, and hands.
  • How to restore the cases of clocks and watches using polishing, lacquering, or painting techniques.
  • How to test the accuracy and performance of clocks and watches using timing machines, gauges, and other instruments.

The most challenging part of repairing a clock or watch depends on the type and condition of the timepiece.

Some of the common challenges are:

  • Finding the right parts for rare or antique clocks and watches or making them from scratch if they are not available.
  • Dealing with delicate or complex mechanisms that require precision and patience to fix.
  • Restoring the original appearance and functionality of the clock or watch without compromising its historical value or authenticity.
  • Solving unexpected problems or complications that may arise during the repair process, such as broken or missing parts, corrosion, or damage.
